High definition television. It really is a better viewing experience. While HD PVRs (high definition personal video recorders) are still a way a ways from being an economical purchase, you can still watch HD television using a HD STB (set top box). And as someone pointed out to me the other day, you don’t have to place the unit on ‘top’ of the television ’set’. Well, duh!

Anyway, I’ve been using the Strong SRT5400 for some time now, and we really haven’t had any trouble with it. The picture quality is great (on a Panasonic HD ready television).

Need a cheap, dirty solution for digital television? This box at just under $70 may be one to consider. I have just set it up for my Mum, who was getting terrible reception from analogue and it works pretty well.

What’s most amazing is that we are getting such good reception with an indoor antenna. In fact, the rabbit’s ears from her telly. Not too shabby in our opinion.

Here is an interesting web camera from Logitech. I have been a bit late coming to the web cam craze, preferring to use voice only across the web. But with several family members in far flung places, it makes sense to try and send images across the net, so we can have a laugh and see each other live on days such as Christmas Day.

So, what’s the upshot of using this beast? Overall, not too bad but I guess the experience is what I pretty much expected. The Internet is not yet fully ready to deliver live images for most people.

Season’s greetings to all GUB readers. We are looking forward bringing you even more informative and useful comments and reviews on gadgets we use in 2007.

I hope you had a safe and happy Christmas in the last few days and that those that have some time off are enjoying the holiday season.

GUB will continue to let you know about new gadgets as we test them and use them and try and work out if they enhance the user experience and help us get through what ever it is we need to get through in our daily lives!

Try not to over-indulge this Christmas, but as my grandmother used to say, “There is always room for too much!”.

Found this article today on iTWire. It looks like non-volatile memory is going to be a hot area for development over the next eighteen months. We look forward to larger storage capacity, faster access times and less power consumption.

This has got to be a boon for all sorts of portable applications. We look forward to hearing more about this technology over the next six months.
