Well GUB usually focuses a little more on computer technology rather than household cleaning technology, but this piece of cleaning equipment definitely needs a mention. I hate vacuuming, and I hate dust. Two problems that don’t go together.
The makers of Dyson DC08 Original claims to solve both of these problems, and so far so good. What you notice when using one of these little beauties, is that there is no dust being flung up into the atmosphere as you vacuum. Zilch, nada, absolutely none–from what I could tell.
It really does what is says it will do. There is plenty of suction power, and the basic tools. I tested the least expensive model in the range and suspect it would be the model that most people would use–there’s no need to get the top of the range at the rather expensive prices you’ll be paying. The only exception to this is if you have asthmatics in your household, the more sophisticated models offer some additional features to address such issues.
However, from what I could tell, this unit is more that sufficient for the normal household, you don’t need the revolving barrel heads, the other special attachments. But if you like vacuuming paraphernalia you can go for it with this company.
But back to the DC08. The bagless function works very well, and it really does seem that suction is maintained no matter whether the dust barrel is empty or full. It’s great for dusting as the dust isn’t moved around the room, or sucked up and blown out the back of older style vacuum cleaners, it actually is removed from the atmosphere by the excellent filter. This is a revelation to me (or an embarrassing revelation of my prior lack of interest in the dustiness of my house) and my expectations of dust free living have just been increased 1,000 fold.
The unit itself is light in weight and easy to maneuver around the house. It’s primarily plastic which makes it so light, but it seems sturdy enough. It’s not an industrial cleaner so you’ll need to treat it relatively gently, but it is more that adequate for the week to week (another embarrassing admission?) workload of cleaning in a domestic situation.
Emptying the barrel is easy enough and you can see how much dust you’ve collected as you go. There are three additional tools for nooks and crannies, dusting and upholstery vacuuming, and they can all be stored with the unit when not in use.
All in all, the DC08 is an excellent investment. It costs a little more than your usual vacuum cleaner, but the extra expenditure is well worth it in my opinion.
