The Nokia 6131 is a handy phone.

It’s easy to use, comes with a fantastic array of features and the 16.7m true colour screen is awfully good looking. In fact if you’re after a phone that has some great features, and you’re not ready to enter the world of 3G mobile networks, then this is the phone for you.
It’s a great size and fits comfortably in your pocket or purse and has a lovely soft touch finish that feels good in your hand and doesn’t slip easily from you fingers.
Menu and software features are good. It has an mp3 player that works well with wired headphones, less well with Bluetooth headphones such as the Blueant X5, which we reviewed a little while ago. The player seems to be a little below par for wireless audio streaming, and so the experience of listening over Bluetooth isn’t as satisfactory.
That is really the only feature that isn’t up to par. The rest of this little phone is excellent. You can get good battery times and it’s never been a problem with the daily use we get with the phone. It takes a micro SD card as well so you can beef up its storage capacity quite substantially. It’s easy to swap cards so there shouldn’t be any grief there.
The PC software it comes with is great and you can transfer files using a USB cable (not supplied but everyone has one of these lying around these days) or via Bluetooth (if you have it on your PC). Bluetooth is slow, so if you’re transferring lots of files you’ll need a USB cable.
There isn’t much else to add. If you’re after a reliable, easy to use and well-featured mobile phone, with a few bells and whistles, you can’t really go past the Nokia 6131. It’s a little pricey (around $400) but you can find them quite cheap on the Net so it’s a mid-range model rather than entry level.
