P1i, Music Player and Bluetooth

image

One of the more pleasing features of the P1i is the quality of the music player. But even more pleasing is the quality of the music player over Bluetooth. Having spent many occasions listening to music via the X5 Blueant Headphones, I can honestly say the experience with the P1i is far superior.

There is negligible drop-out in the Bluetooth connection, which is a stark difference from my previous experience where the connection would drop out every 2 minutes or so.

And the quality of the sound is quite extraordinary. This really is a very cool MP3 player as well as being a great phone.

The connection to the X5 is really simple if you let the P1i do all the work as far as connecting goes. There was a trick on the X5 to press both volume buttons simultaneously to connect - particularly in order to control the media player from the X5. This is no longer necessary as the P1i connects to the X5 without any fuss - just turn on the X5 and then turn on Bluetooth on the phone - connected. That’s very easy.

But as mentioned, the biggest boon is the clarity of the sound via Bluetooth on the P1i. I have not detected any clipping as yet from the myriad of tracks that I’ve played. The old Atom was almost unpleasant to listen to after a while as the sound quality was so poor.

So if you were concerned about the MP3/Bluetooth capacity of this phone then you shouldn’t be. It’s one of its more impressive features.

UPDATE: I have had a chance to use the headphone and headset functions between the X5 and the P1i. There are a few glitches in the interface, particularly when you get a call while listening to music. Answering is fine, but the P1i doesn’t switch back automatically to the music player - you’ll need to resume play from the phone - ie., getting it out of your bag or pocket. This is only a minor annoyance and the main thing is you don’t miss calls while listening to music.

As mentioned in an earlier post, there are many things that I’m trying out with the phone but bit by bit I’ll try and give you an overall sense of this device.
